Product Terminology
Blocks
Also known as pulleys, blocks are tools designed to move or change the direction of an item or load; generally featuring an Eye or Hook support. This product is made from steel-zinc electroplated finish.
- Bolt Block
A threaded fastner is substituted for an eye or hook. This product allows the user to mount to a female fastner or use a threaded nut to secure it. - Deck Block
This product allows the user to mount the item horizontally or vertically. - Flat Mount block
This is a block that can be mounted vertically or horizontally using the customer’s choice of fastners. - Gable Block
This is a “Fixed Eye Block” that uses stamped parts. This block does not swivel; it has a fixed mounted eye at the top of the block.
Sheaves
A machined grooved wheel made from cold drawn bar stock-zinc electroplated finish. The groove diameter of the sheave is equal to the maximum cable size.
- Multiple Sheave
This is a product that allows multiple wire lines to be applied to the block or pulley. - Sheave bore or Inside Diameter ( I.D. )
This is the hole dimension through a sheave that a shaft or bolt is mounted. - Sheaves Outside Diameter ( O.D. )
This is the diameter of the sheave.
Bearings/Bushings
This product is pressed into the center of a sheave. It is made from a powdered metal process and then oil impregnated for self lubrication. When applied to sheaves, these products increase the median load application.
Others
This product is pressed into the center of a sheave. It is made from a powdered metal process and then oil impregnated for self lubrication. When applied to sheaves, these products increase the median load application.
- Sideplates
This is the outer covering of a pulley. This part is stamped from low carbon coiled steel-zinc electroplate. - Forgings
Eyes & Hooks are produced using the drop forge technique. This method ensures optimum strength. Our forgings are also zinc electroplated. - Fastners
Rivets & Clevises are formed from low maleable steel wire. - Hook-Eye Support
This part allows the eye of the hook to swivel in an assembled block or pulley. - Spacers
Spacers are used to reduce the I.D. (inside diameter) of a sheave according the customer’s needs. - Stress Formula
This formula determines the stress generated in pounds on the block.
(L x A = S) Load in pounds (L) multiplied by the Angle of pull (A) equals Stress on the block (S). - Safe Work Load Limit
This is the maximum load (in lbs.) which can be applied to the block and which has been established by Block Division, INC. (Load Capacity)
